Matt is serving as the lead counsel on a number of complaints against Roblox that have been filed all over the country, both through Dolman Law Group and through partnerships with other mass tort law firms. The Roblox gaming platform has become a popular space for kids and teens to explore digital worlds, connect with friends, and play countless user-created games. But for many families, what started as a harmless entertainment app quickly turned into a real-life nightmare. Children of all ages have been and continue to be exposed to sexually explicit content with minimal oversight by Roblox.

Roblox Corporation is now facing a growing wave of lawsuits claiming that the platform puts children at risk of exploitation by sexual predators and prioritizes financial gain over safety. Roblox has failed to implement basic safety features that would better protect children.

If your child was harmed while playing Roblox, you may be eligible to take legal action. A Roblox Lawsuit Lawyer can protect your rights and fight for maximum compensation if Roblox has harmed or endangered your child. Child sexual predators have roamed freely on the gaming platform, and victims can now seek legal recourse against Roblox.

Our goal is to provide parents and families with the best possible legal help to hold Roblox responsible for what we believe is their knowledge and failure to act to address the systemic sexual predation of children on their platform.

There is a growing body of documented sexual crimes against children, and the level of inappropriate behavior exhibited by adults on Roblox is alarming. Roblox has failed to protect children despite ample warnings. Roblox has exposed a generation of children to serious dangers, including sexual grooming and sexual assault.

Roblox Lawsuit Updates – December 2025

At Dolman Law Group, we continue to fight for families across the country whose children have suffered unthinkable trauma after using platforms like Roblox and Discord. This month, our firm filed another new lawsuit, this time on behalf of a mother and her 13-year-old son. Our client is yet another child victimized by an online predator who was able to bypass the safeguards that Roblox claims to have in place.

As these cases continue to gain national attention, more families are coming forward, more state officials are taking action, and Roblox is finally announcing long-overdue changes to its safety systems. Keep reading to learn more.

Dolman Law Group Files New Lawsuit on Behalf of Ohio Family

In November, Dolman Law Group filed a new federal lawsuit in California on behalf of an Ohio mother and her 13-year-old son, referred to in court documents as John Doe.

  • At 11 years old, the boy was groomed by an adult predator who posed as another child on Roblox.
  • The predator sent explicit images and threatened to harm the child’s family in order to coerce the boy into taking and sending similar photos of himself.
  • The lawsuit alleges Roblox created a false sense of safety for parents by promoting its platform as safe while making it easy for predators to find and exploit children.
  • Our legal team also discovered Roblox “experiences” with disturbing references to convicted child abusers and sexualized content, which remained accessible to young users.

As Attorney Matthew Dolman explained, “This case against Roblox is a terrifying reminder of the world we live in, where capitalist greed far outweighs humanity… Without forcing systemic change, Roblox will continue to operate anarchically.”

Our firm is currently representing families nationwide in similar cases.

Texas Attorney General Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Failures

Also in November, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a separate lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the company of:

  • Violating online safety laws by failing to protect children from exposure to grooming, exploitation, and sexual abuse.
  • Deceiving parents by marketing Roblox as a safe platform while allowing harmful content and interactions.
  • Prioritizing profits over safety, calling Roblox a “digital playground for predators.”

This lawsuit sends a strong message that state officials are now taking the same stand that many families—and our legal team—have taken in court: that Roblox must be held accountable for the harm caused on its platform.

Roblox Announces Facial Age Estimation and Chat Controls

Facing growing legal and public pressure, Roblox announced new safety updates on November 18, 2025, which it says will begin rolling out in December, including:

  • Facial age-estimation technology will be required for users who want to access chat features, allowing parents to control who their children can communicate with.
  • Chat restrictions will limit contact between adults and minors, unless they are verified as family members.
  • Roblox says it has launched 145 safety initiatives this year and continues to invest in moderation tools and partnerships with child safety groups.

While these steps are a positive sign, they do not erase the suffering already experienced by many children, and they do not remove Roblox’s legal responsibility for past harms.

Connecticut Predator Arrested for Exploiting Teen on Roblox

In another chilling reminder of how predators use Roblox to reach children, law enforcement in Connecticut arrested a man in November who allegedly used the platform to groom and exploit a 13-year-old girl. The suspect is facing charges related to enticement and sexual abuse of a minor.

This criminal case mirrors many of the allegations found in the civil lawsuits being filed across the country, namely, adults posing as children, gaining a minor’s trust, moving the conversation off-platform (often to Discord), and then manipulating the child into sharing explicit content.

What’s Next? Possible MDL and Continued Legal Action

With lawsuits continuing to mount, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) will meet in December 2025 to consider whether to consolidate Roblox lawsuits into a single federal proceeding, called a Multidistrict Litigation (MDL). This could help streamline the litigation process and bring a more efficient measure of justice to families seeking answers.

At Dolman Law Group, we continue to support families across the country whose children have been harmed by online predators using platforms like Roblox and Discord. This month brought a wave of new lawsuits—including several filed by our firm—highlighting the emotional and psychological toll these platforms can have on young users when safety measures fail.

Georgia Family Seeks Justice After Son Exploited Online

Our firm recently filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of a DeKalb County mother whose teenage son was exploited by an adult he met on Roblox. The predator, pretending to be a fellow child, allegedly earned the boy’s trust through chat features before transitioning their communication to Discord. There, the adult manipulated the child into sending personal and explicit images. These actions left the boy traumatized and struggling with ongoing mental health challenges.

Dolman Law Group attorney Sara Beller, who represents the family, described how the child’s mother discovered the situation only after noticing her son becoming withdrawn.

“This experience has been life-altering,” she said. “Not just for the child, but for the whole family.”

Founding Attorney Matthew Dolman added:

“This case is a terrifying reminder of the risks children face every day online. When billion-dollar companies fail to prioritize safety, children are the ones who pay the price.”

More Families Step Forward With Devastating Claims

Other lawsuits filed this month describe equally troubling scenarios. One Kentucky family says their 13-year-old daughter, Audree Heine, took her own life after being manipulated by users on a Roblox-affiliated group that allegedly promoted violence and targeted vulnerable teens.

Another case involves a 10-year-old girl who was reportedly lured to a location by someone she met through the platform and was later assaulted.

These cases are not isolated. They reflect a dangerous pattern that shows how predators can exploit weaknesses in moderation, age verification, and platform policies, especially when children are led to believe they’re interacting with peers.

Attorney General Issues Criminal Subpoena Against Roblox

In a related legal move, Florida’s Attorney General is demanding documents from Roblox related to young users, specifically how they are protected, who is responsible for marketing Roblox to children, and what steps they are taking to stop the harm. Although criminal actions do not directly affect civil lawsuits, this information may support families’ claims that Roblox should be held accountable for the harm suffered by children around the country.

Federal Court to Consider Case Consolidation

Because these lawsuits are now being filed in multiple states, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) will meet in December 2025 to consider combining them into a single coordinated litigation. This move would allow families to work together more effectively and apply pressure for long-term safety reforms.

Roblox raked in a whopping $3.6 billion in 2024, a 29% increase from the year before. But despite all that cash rolling in, the company ended the year with a net loss of nearly $1 billion. So while Roblox is killing it on user growth and engagement, it’s still not profitable. And that’s a problem for the platform that has invested so much.

So what does that mean in real terms?

It means Roblox is under huge pressure to grow. More users, more screen time, more money. And when 39% of your daily users are 13 or younger—that’s over 32 million kids—that pressure is directly tied to keeping kids online and engaged. The longer kids are logged in, the more money Roblox makes from in-game purchases and virtual currency.

But here’s the thing: safety costs money, and an overhaul, including moderation, age verification, and real-time monitoring, might cut into engagement, especially from users who exploit the system’s loopholes.

It could also slow down growth because it would mean Roblox would be admitting there is a problem, and Roblox doesn’t seem willing to risk that. What parent would let their kids continue to play Roblox if they really n

In lawsuits filed across the country, families are alleging that Roblox has ignored red flags for years—choosing monetization over meaningful moderation. And looking at the numbers, it’s not hard to see why. Safety doesn’t make money. Engagement does. And for now, Roblox is betting on growth no matter the cost.

At Dolman Law Group, we represent families who are living through unimaginable pain. Our clients are parents whose children were targeted, manipulated, and emotionally destroyed by predators who used platforms like Roblox and Discord to reach them.

Parents Claim Roblox is Responsible for Their Son’s Death

In one of the most heartbreaking cases yet, the grieving parents of a 15-year-old boy are suing Roblox and Discord after their son took his own life. The lawsuit alleges the boy was groomed by a predator posing as a young user.

Despite all parental controls being turned on, the predator harassed the teen for months, coerced him into sending explicit content, and continued the abuse on Discord. These parents are now taking legal action to hold these tech companies accountable for their failure to protect their son.

Two More Lawsuits Allege Similar Scenarios

In North Carolina, two lawsuits were recently filed on behalf of young girls who were just 13 and 14 years old when adult predators contacted them through Roblox. In both cases, the exploitation began on the Roblox gaming platform and then moved to Discord.

One of the girls was reportedly coerced into sending explicit images of herself in exchange for Robux, the in-game currency. These predators used voice-altering technology and fake identities to gain the girls’ trust—then turned to threats and blackmail.

One of those lawsuits was filed by our founding partner, Matthew Dolman, on behalf of a Cumberland County family whose daughter is still in therapy due to the trauma she endured.

“This case against Roblox and Discord is a terrifying reminder of the world we live in, where capitalist greed far outweighs humanity,” Dolman said. “There have never been sufficient safety measures in place, and children are suffering unimaginably.”

The lawsuit describes Roblox and Discord as platforms that give parents the illusion of safety, while in reality, they may serve as gateways for abuse. These cases are about more than negligence—they’re about accountability, justice, and protecting future children from the same harm.

The Team at Dolman Law Group is Leading the Charge Against Roblox and Discord

If your child was groomed, threatened, or emotionally harmed while using Roblox or Discord, you have every right to take legal action. No parent can monitor every moment of their child’s online activity, and no family should be blamed when tech platforms fail to protect minors.

We have filed another lawsuit against Roblox and Discord on behalf of a mother and her 11-year-old daughter after the young girl was targeted by a predator on their platforms. The lawsuit alleges that the companies are negligent for not having proper safety measures in place, which allowed a predator to groom the child. The suit claims the predator used Robux, Roblox’s virtual currency, to coerce the minor into sending explicit images. According to the lawsuit, both companies prioritize financial gain over the safety of children, resulting in severe trauma for the victim.

Plaintiff lawyers led by Alexandra Walsh and Sarah London have filed a memorandum in support of a motion for transfer of actions for coordinated or consolidated pretrial proceedings with the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation.. Further, the plaintiffs have requested that all lawsuits against Roblox for the exploitation, grooming, and/or abuse of children be consolidated in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Judge William Orrick and Chief Judge Richard Seeborg were expressly listed within this motion as being most well-suited to oversee this MDL.

The very purpose of consolidating existing and forthcoming lawsuits is to avoid inconsistent pretrial rulings and duplicative discovery. It is important to note that there are currently thirty-one (31) cases pending against Roblox in twelve (12) judicial districts before twenty-five (25) different judges.

We’ve just filed another lawsuit against Roblox and Discord, this time on behalf of a mother and her daughter from Dale County, Alabama. This case is another tragic example of how these platforms have become a hunting ground for predators.

Our client, a 12-year-old girl, was repeatedly targeted and groomed by multiple predators who used the promise of the very currency that fuels Roblox’s massive profits, Robux, to exploit her. The manipulation and abuse she endured led to severe depression and suicidal thoughts, and eventually resulted in her hospitalization.

This case, like the others, highlights the unacceptable truth: Roblox and Discord have not done enough to protect children. Their platforms are designed in a way that allows predators to operate freely and they have done little about it.

As our founding attorney, Matthew Dolman, put it, “Roblox gives evil individuals another literal bargaining chip to play out their unthinkable fantasies with impressionable children.”

We will not stop fighting for these families until Roblox is held accountable and truly makes its platform safe for the millions of literal children and teens who use it.

“Roblox gives evil individuals another literal bargaining chip to play out their unthinkable fantasies with impressionable children.”

In a new lawsuit filed in the Circuit Court of Perry County, Arkansas, Dolman Law Group is representing a mother and her son who were sexually exploited on Roblox and Discord. Our complaint, like so many others, alleges that both corporations are accountable for creating a breeding ground for predators and are therefore responsible for enabling a predator to groom the young boy who was 12 years old at the time the crimes were committed.

The predator masqueraded as another boy of the same age and eventually manipulated him into sending multiple nude images of himself. The predator, of course, encouraged him to keep their interactions a secret.

According to our founding attorney Matthew Dolman, Roblox has prioritized profit over child safety for too long, allowing depraved individuals to harm children on the platform. The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages for the severe psychological and emotional injuries the boy suffered, highlighting the platform’s negligent design and pervasive misrepresentations about safety.

While Roblox claims its new safety features empower parents with greater control than ever, we remain skeptical. Roblox has repeatedly lied to the general public and their shareholders, time and again, touting the safety features of their gaming platform while dealing with numerous law enforcement investigations of sexual predators grooming and abusing children facilitated by Roblox.

We’ve just filed a new lawsuit against Roblox and Discord (which has been named in a few other lawsuits we have filed) in California on behalf of a mother and her young daughter from Lake County, Indiana.

Our complaint, like many others we have filed, alleges these tech companies are responsible for knowingly creating and maintaining a dangerous environment that enabled the sexual exploitation and manipulation of this now 14-year-old girl.

Here’s what happened: an adult predator posing as a teenager groomed the young Jane Doe on Roblox and Discord (moving between platforms to avoid detection). He eventually coerced her into sending explicit images of herself and encouraged her to commit self-harm.

Our lawsuit claims that Roblox—which they’ve always marketed as a safe platform for children while doing very little to protect them—has failed to implement even the most basic safeguards while prioritizing financial gain and keeping investors happy over keeping children safe. These actions have left kids completely vulnerable to likely hundreds of thousands of predators who they know are on their platform.

Dolman Law Group has filed a federal lawsuit against the Roblox Corporation in the Northern District of California that alleges Roblox’s actions and inactions played a role in allowing a predator to sexually exploit an 8-year-old girl from Stafford County, Virginia.

The complaint states the predator used the app to groom the child over time and coerce her into sending explicit images in exchange for Roblox’s virtual currency, Robux.

The lawsuit claims Roblox didn’t do enough to keep kids safe and that the company’s design makes it easy for predators to operate. According to the lawsuit, Roblox presented itself as a safe place for kids while allowing private, unsupervised interactions.

The complaint also points out some seriously concerning content in user-created games. Jane Doe and her mom are seeking damages for the emotional distress. Dolman Law Group is handling similar cases across the country.

As of September 1, 2025, Dolman Law Group has filed ten lawsuits against Roblox Corporation for what we believe is the facilitation of grooming, sexual abuse, and sexual exploitation against children.

We believe they are liable for these incidents because they failed to implement adequate safety measures, proper age verification, proper moderation, and dozens of other issues they have been well aware of, such as the ability for a blocked user to create a new account immediately.

We are arguing that these failures, among others, allow predators to thrive on Roblox.

Additionally, we believe they intentionally marketed Roblox as safe for children (40% are 13 and under) while knowing that their platform contains sex clubs, Nazi idolization groups, and even a Satanic pedophile sex cult.

Oh yeah, you read that right: a satanic cult that engaged in the exchange and creation of child sexual abuse material, as well as extreme extortion and exploitation, on both Roblox and Discord.

Because of the tendency for predators to move their victims from Roblox to encrypted or more private platforms, we have also included other defendants, such as Discord and Meta, in our litigation, who we believe also failed in their duty to keep their underage users safe.

Dolman Law Group is continuing to lead the fight against Roblox and Discord and to hold these tech giants accountable. In addition to the ten we have filed already, just in the last few weeks, we have dozens more ready to go and hundreds being vetted.

Because Dolman Law Group’s attorneys are at the forefront of this important fight, we have been featured in some of the biggest magazines and news outlets in the country, including.

If you’re a parent, you probably already know that kids love Roblox. But what many families don’t realize until it’s too late is just how unsafe this platform can be for young users. Recent lawsuits and investigations are shedding light on serious dangers hiding behind the game’s kid-friendly image.

This month, the Louisiana Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Roblox, claiming the company failed to protect children from sexual predators and disturbing content. According to the lawsuit, Roblox allowed harmful material to spread across its platform, including a game called “Escape to Epstein Island,” and even marked it as suitable for all ages.

The lawsuit says Roblox is more focused on growing its user base and making money than protecting children. It also criticizes the company for silencing outside safety efforts. For example, when a YouTuber exposed predators on the platform, Roblox banned him and issued a cease-and-desist letter instead of fixing the problem.

In another major development, two law firms filed a mass tort lawsuit on behalf of more than 400 victims, many of whom were children groomed or abused through Roblox and Discord. Some of these cases date back over a decade, raising serious questions about how long these safety failures have gone unchecked.

Families say predators use the platform’s chat and private game features to find and manipulate young users. In some cases, the harm didn’t stop online; it carried over into real life.

Roblox has denied many of the claims and insists it’s doing everything it can to make the platform safer. The company points to its new safety tools, including content filters, voice moderation, and age-based restrictions.

But critics, especially families who have already been harmed, say it’s not enough. Even with these tools in place, predators continue to target children, and dangerous content still slips through.

We’re Suing Roblox!

At Dolman Law Group, we understand how heartbreaking these situations can be. No parent should have to go through this alone, and no child should suffer because a company failed to do its job.

We are helping families take legal action against companies that put profits over safety. You may be able to recover compensation for:

  • Emotional trauma and counseling
  • Medical or psychological treatment
  • Loss of trust, security, or well-being

We are proud to stand with the families who are seeking justice and demanding that Roblox prioritize child safety over profits. If you think you need our help, please contact us today.

Dolman Law Group has just filed a new case against Roblox—this time in Guilford County, North Carolina—and once again, we are representing a minor and her guardian. The complaint we filed with the federal court basically says that the Roblox Corporation knowingly created and continued to maintain a platform that’s a breeding ground for predators. We also claim that since they have long had previous knowledge of this problem, they’ve been facilitating the grooming and sexual exploitation of minors.

Roblox has been straight-up lying to parents, telling them their app is safe for kids while doing very little to implement even the most basic protections like age verification or decent parental controls.

Here’s what happened: the minor plaintiff was groomed on Roblox by a predator who was pretending to be another kid. This predator moved their conversations off the app (so they could speak more privately). He then used Robux, the in-game currency, to coerce the child into sending explicit images of herself.

We argue that the damages these incidents are creating have been totally foreseeable and preventable, but Roblox just kept making decisions that prioritized growth and keeping investors happy over actually protecting the kids and users on their platform.

Our lawsuit is seeking damages for severe and lasting harm, including emotional distress, trauma, and loss of trust.

Dolman Law Group is continuing to pursue cases all across the country on behalf of children and families who’ve been harmed on Roblox. If you believe your child was harmed because of Roblox (AND potentially Discord or another app), contact us for a free, confidential consultation to discuss your situation.

Dolman Law Group has filed another federal lawsuit, this time in the Southern District of Texas, on behalf of an 8-year-old boy and his mother against Roblox Corporation. The complaint alleges Roblox enabled and facilitated the boy’s grooming and sexual exploitation by an adult predator who posed as a child to solicit sexual images from him.

According to the lawsuit, Roblox’s platform design, including its open chat system, nearly nonexistent age checks, no meaningful parental consent, and ease with which a banned player can create a new account, allowed the predator to connect with the child, gain his trust, and coerce him into sharing first his cell number, then eventually explicit images.

The filing accuses Roblox of prioritizing user growth and profits over safety since it is clear that they have known about and have been ignoring warnings about predatory behavior on the app for years.

Dolman Law Group is seeking damages to compensate the boy’s family for the vast amounts of mental health care he will need, as well as for systemic changes to protect other children from going through the same harm.

Unfortunately, thousands, possibly tens of thousands, of children are likely experiencing some type of grooming or abuse on Roblox right now as the wheels of justice turn slowly. But don’t forget, though they may turn slow, they grind exceedingly fine.

We have officially filed our second major lawsuit against Roblox because we believe Roblox’s design choices, safety failures, and public misrepresentations have directly enabled predators to groom, exploit, and harm our client, and potentially tens or even hundreds of thousands of minors across the country.

Dolman Law Group, along with co-counsel Battle Law, filed this lawsuit in the Superior Court of DeKalb County against Roblox Corporation in Georgia. For obvious reasons, our clients wish to remain anonymous, so we have filed and are representing them as Jane Doe and her minor son, John Doe.

Just like many of the lawsuits that have been filed in the Roblox Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Lawsuits, the allegations are pretty disturbing. Our lawsuit claims Roblox essentially enabled the grooming and real-world sexual exploitation of our client after predators he met on the platform posed as fellow children, gained his trust, and eventually coerced him into sending explicit images and videos.

It’s exactly the kind of thing that makes you wonder what the hell these companies are actually doing to protect kids and why these horrendous things happening on Roblox aren’t flooding our newscycles.

Of course, we are working to change that:

Atlanta News First discusses new Roblox Lawsuits, including statements from Matt Dolman.

Roblox has always branded itself as safe and family-friendly, which is turning out to be quite the joke. However, we know that kids are being emotionally and even physically harmed because of their time on Roblox.

What is yet to be proven, which we allege is the case, is that Roblox has knowingly allowed these heinous situations in the name of the almighty dollar. We believe Roblox knew/knows that adults are impersonating kids, contacting minors directly, and operating without any effective safeguards, while children are unknowingly and knowingly making themselves vulnerable on Roblox.

The lawsuit we filed in Georgia isn’t an isolated incident; it’s part of a growing wave of litigation against Roblox and other platforms like Discord that are basically turning a blind eye to child predators. They know that a massive amount of their daily users are children (nearly 40% are minors), and they know what’s going on on their platform, but we believe they don’t want to draw attention to it so as not to affect their profits.

Dolman Law Group is actively investigating any potential Roblox cases. You can contact us 24/7 for a free consultation to discuss your child’s experience.

No parent imagines that a child’s time spent on a gaming platform could lead to real-world harm, but that’s exactly what one Indiana family says happened to their young daughter after she was groomed by a predator on Roblox.

According to a recently filed lawsuit, the child was targeted by an adult who used the platform to initiate contact, gain her trust, and ultimately exploit her. The predator allegedly manipulated the communication features within Roblox to groom the girl over time, eventually leading to a devastating assault. The family is now seeking justice through the legal system to hold Roblox accountable for its failure to prevent this kind of predatory behavior.

Despite marketing itself as a safe, child-friendly space, Roblox has faced multiple lawsuits in recent months involving allegations of child grooming and exploitation. Parents are increasingly questioning whether the platform is doing enough to protect its youngest users from hidden dangers.

Today, Forbes Magazine published an article about the lawsuit we filed on July 17, 2025, against Roblox and Discord on behalf of a young Jane Doe and her family from Miami-Dade County, Florida. The Forbes story, “Family Sues Roblox, Discord After Child Raped By Predatory User” by Alison Escalante, recounts the horrendous story, details what we allege Roblox and Discord did or didn’t do to protect their underage users, and notes similar past incidents involving children groomed on Roblox and Discord that led to sexual assaults.

The article focuses mainly on concerns about Roblox’s weak or nonexistent age restrictions, commenting that users under 13 can play with older users, parental controls practically disappear once a user turns 13, and wonky age verification processes.

Finally, the Forbes story reports on their attempt to get a statement from the spokespersons for Roblox and Discord, but they declined to comment. Instead, they reiterated their commitment to user safety, mentioning investments in technology, moderation, and parental resources.

On July 18, 2025, we filed a civil lawsuit in the Superior Court of California for San Mateo County against Roblox Corporation and Discord Inc. on behalf of an 11-year-old Florida girl who was groomed and exploited through both platforms. This case seeks to hold these companies accountable for failing to implement basic child safety protections and for creating online environments that allowed predators to target and harm vulnerable children.

Our complaint alleges that Roblox and Discord negligently designed their platforms in ways that made it easy for bad actors to reach and manipulate young users, while giving parents a false sense of security about the safety of these services. Despite promoting themselves as safe spaces for kids and teens, both companies failed to properly monitor their platforms, ignored widespread reports of grooming and explicit content, and allowed unsupervised communication between minors and adults.

According to our lawsuit, the minor was exposed to harmful content and contacted by adult users through chat and communication features that remained accessible—even when safety settings were enabled. In some instances, the child was able to enter sexually themed areas within Roblox that should never have been available on a platform marketed to children. Discord further allowed this exploitation to continue off-platform with even less oversight.

We believe this harm was preventable. These companies knew—or should have known—that their platforms were being used by predators, yet they failed to take reasonable steps to protect children. As a result, a young girl suffered. We are seeking monetary damages for the victim and demanding systemic changes in how both Roblox and Discord manage safety for minors.

Tech platforms that profit from child users must be held to the highest standards of accountability. We intend to see that happen.

A lawsuit filed this afternoon in U.S. Federal District Court for the Northern District of California states some of the strongest allegations of egregious conduct exhibited by Roblox to date. The plaintiff is a 14-year-old girl who was sexually groomed by an adult posing as a fellow child who took advantage of this child’s vulnerability by pretending and promising to be a friend. In turn, an emotional connection was developed between the groomer and the victim. This sexual predator traveled across state lines to Alabama to meet with this child at a fast food restaurant near her home.

Upon meeting the young girl, the defendant, a sexual predator, took this child to a nearby location and attempted to rape her. Law enforcement arrived during this attack and found the young girl without a shirt, with bruises on her arms and legs. The predator had his genitals exposed and was attempting to remove the girl’s pants. Police arrested the sex predator, and he is presently incarcerated.

In a new development, the chat platform Discord has officially been named as a defendant in lawsuits related to child abuse occurring on and around Roblox. The lawsuits allege that Discord played a critical role in enabling predators to groom and exploit children by allowing them to move conversations from Roblox’s game environment to private, unmoderated Discord servers.

According to legal filings and survivor accounts, a disturbing pattern has emerged: predators often use Roblox to identify and initiate contact with vulnerable children, then lure them onto Discord where there is significantly less oversight. These isolated chat rooms provide a more concealed space for abuse, including the sharing of explicit content, coercion, and manipulation.

The inclusion of Discord as a defendant highlights the broader ecosystem of online platforms that may contribute to or enable abuse. Plaintiffs argue that Discord failed to implement or enforce sufficient safety measures to protect minors—especially given its known usage by child predators and prior warnings from advocacy groups.

As litigation continues, the focus is expanding beyond Roblox itself to include the interconnected platforms that allow abuse to flourish unchecked. Both companies may now face increased pressure to overhaul their safety practices.

After Bloomberg laid out all these crazy and disturbing issues earlier this year, the lawsuits have been piling up against Roblox. We’re talking serious legal action here, all pointing to one horrifying truth: Roblox is allegedly facilitating child sexual exploitation. This is not something you see every day from a video game, especially not with this much merit.

These lawsuits claim Roblox knowingly built a metaphorical playground for predators, a place where it’s alarmingly easy to meet kids and gain their trust, always behind a harmless-looking character avatar, often through shady monetization tactics, and allowed by a total failure on age verification. It’s a digital Wild West, and our kids are the targets.

And if you need an example, we need not even leave the playground concept. Roblox is essentially a digital construction kit that allows anyone to build anything. But Roblox has to introduce the pieces to this “construction kit,” so to speak. And they have literally provided the tools and assets for anyone to build virtual replicas of playgrounds from their vast library of playground-themed items in their Creator Store. And, there are dedicated zones within the game, like the widely popular Bloxburg.

Roblox equips users to design spaces where people can gather and interact. Any people, adult or child, without any age verification, and in a situation where most parents assume the game is harmless because it appears their kid is just controlling a little character, who can do anything and everything on a digital playground, like riding a bike or playing in a tree house. What the parents might not know is that the other little characters on the playground could be predators who can chat, direct message, and even voice chat with their child.

The message is getting louder and clearer: we need tighter regulations. And frankly, Roblox needs a complete overhaul of its safety features to actually meet child protection laws. Our firm is watching every move, and we’re getting ready to stand with the families who have been ripped apart by this. This isn’t just news; it’s a call to arms.

We want to quickly clear up some incorrect information we have read on other sites. The JPML has NOT denied the consolidation of the Roblox child exploitation lawsuits.

That decision applies only to the video game addiction lawsuits, which are entirely different cases.

The lawsuits that Dolman Law Group and other law firms have filed, which focus on child exploitation and platform negligence by Roblox and Discord, remain active, and we expect them to be consolidated into an MDL soon.

As of now, there have been no recent updates or new developments in the lawsuits involving Roblox. The status of ongoing cases remains unchanged, and no additional legal actions or significant announcements have been reported. If you’re monitoring these cases, check back periodically for any future updates. If you feel you have a case against Roblox for exploiting your child or enabling their sexual exploitation, reach out to our attorneys at Dolman Law Group for a free case evaluation.

A recent civil complaint filed in San Francisco County Superior Court (Case No. CGC-25-624596) accuses Roblox Corporation and Discord Inc. of enabling the exploitation of a 13-year-old girl. Filed under the alias Jane Doe on April 21, 2025, the lawsuit alleges that the child was initially groomed through in-game communication on Roblox before being coerced into sharing explicit material via Discord.

According to the complaint, both companies failed to implement adequate safeguards and allegedly misrepresented the safety of their platforms to parents. Attorneys for the family claim the abuse occurred despite clear indications on the user account that the child was underage. Over time, in-person meetings resulted from private messages exchanged between a sexual predator and a child.

The legal action highlights specific features such as Roblox’s “whisper” messaging system and Discord’s private channels as avenues through which the predator maintained contact. The case seeks financial damages for negligence and failure to warn, marking one of the first coordinated legal efforts targeting both platforms over child protection failures. A number of legal complaints cite Roblox’s knowledge of a pedophile problem dating back to at least 2021.

On April 18, 2025, a federal class action (Case No. 2:25-cv-03476) was initiated in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California by Michael and Salena Garcia on behalf of their child, referred to as R.G. The lawsuit claims that Roblox Corp. covertly collects and shares users’ digital activity, including that of children, without proper disclosure or consent.

The filing alleges that the company uses tracking technologies, such as fingerprinting scripts, to harvest detailed data, including IP addresses, device signatures, keystroke activity, and even mouse movements. It transmits this information to external entities for advertising and analytics purposes.

Plaintiffs assert that this practice constitutes unauthorized surveillance and violates federal statutes, including the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The lawsuit seeks both injunctive relief and damages, asserting that the platform’s public image as a kid-friendly environment is contradicted by its backend data practices.

On April 17, 2025, New Jersey’s Attorney General filed a consumer protection complaint against Discord Inc. in Essex County Superior Court, alleging that the company’s platform places minors at serious risk. The lawsuit argues that Discord misleads users and fails to implement sufficient controls to prevent predatory behavior, allowing adult users unfettered access to children.

The state’s filing describes Discord as a “hunting ground” for those seeking to exploit minors, with its default settings allowing unsolicited messages and friend requests. The complaint also references Roblox as an example of where minors often gather online, making them more vulnerable to cross-platform contact with predators.

While Roblox is not a defendant in the New Jersey case, the lawsuit emphasizes how integrated digital ecosystems can amplify risks to children. The state is seeking penalties and court-mandated reforms to enhance Discord’s moderation and user protections.

In a separate move, Florida’s Attorney General initiated a legal investigation into Roblox Corp. on April 16, 2025, issuing a subpoena that demands internal documentation regarding the company’s marketing, moderation policies, data collection, and age-verification systems.

The subpoena comes in response to rising concerns that the platform exposes young users to inappropriate content and gives predators access to minors through in-game communication tools. Florida’s inquiry is focused on determining whether Roblox’s practices may violate state-level consumer protection laws.

The investigation is not yet a lawsuit, but depending on the findings, regulatory enforcement could follow. Roblox has stated publicly that it intends to cooperate and reiterated its commitment to safety.

In a criminal case that drew national attention, a 10-year-old girl from Taft, California, was abducted after initiating contact with a man through Roblox and communicating with him on Discord. Authorities say the child was reported missing on April 13, 2025, and later found in the suspect’s car in Elk Grove, over 250 miles away.

The suspect, 27-year-old Matthew Naval, is currently in custody and faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Investigators believe Naval had been grooming the girl for weeks using online gaming and messaging features.

He is being held on $1.35 million bail and has entered a plea of not guilty. The incident has intensified public debate about the vulnerability of children on platforms like Roblox and the extent to which those platforms bear responsibility for abuse that begins within their ecosystems.

Roblox continues to face a growing number of legal actions across various jurisdictions, many of them initiated by families who allege that the platform’s structure and features contribute to the sexual exploitation of children and psychological harm resulting from it.

A proposed multidistrict litigation (MDL) in 2024 sought to consolidate several of these lawsuits, including those targeting Roblox. However, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation declined to centralize the cases due to significant differences among the platforms and allegations involved. As a result, litigation involving Roblox is proceeding independently in state and federal courts.

These combined developments illustrate intensifying legal scrutiny of Roblox’s operations. The company now faces pressure on multiple fronts, from private lawsuits, government investigations, and public outcry, to implement stronger safeguards and align its practices more closely with the expectations of parents, lawmakers, and consumer protection authorities.

What Is Roblox, and Why is Roblox Getting Sued?

What Is Roblox?

Roblox is an online gaming platform that allows users, primarily children and teens, to build and play games. Unlike traditional video games with a defined structure, Roblox functions more like a digital universe made up of countless games created by its users.

Players can customize avatars, socialize, and participate in thousands of experiences developed by other users, all while making purchases with Robux, the platform’s virtual currency.

Roblox Corporation, based in San Mateo, California, launched the platform in 2006. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most popular gaming platforms in the world, with millions of daily active users under the age of 13 and more than $2.1 billion in gross profits. Its success relies heavily on high user engagement and social interactions.

Roblox Sextortion: What is Sextortion?

Sextortion is a form of cybercrime where an individual threatens to distribute private, sensitive, or sexually explicit images or videos of someone, often obtained through deception or coercion, if the victim does not comply with their demands.

In the context of Roblox, or any online platform, this often unfolds as follows:

  1. Grooming: A predator (the extorter) befriends a child or teen online, often building trust over time through seemingly innocent conversations.
  2. Obtaining Content: The extorter manipulates the victim into creating or sharing private, often explicit, images or videos of themselves. This might happen directly through chat, by luring them to another platform (like Discord or Snapchat), or by exploiting vulnerabilities in games/experiences.
  3. Threat and Demands: Once the extortionist
  4.  has this sensitive content, they threaten to publicly expose it (share it with friends, family, school, or post it online) unless the victim meets their demands. These demands can include:
  • Sending more explicit content.
  • Sending money or virtual currency (like Robux).
  • Performing sexual acts on camera.
  • Keeping the interaction secret.
  1. Ongoing Coercion: The cycle often continues, with the extorter making new demands once previous ones are met, trapping the victim in a terrifying loop.

On platforms like Roblox, the initial contact and grooming might occur through in-game chat, direct messages, or user-generated content that subtly facilitates such interactions. The “moving off-platform” stage is a critical vulnerability, as it allows the extorter to operate in less moderated environments where the actual obtaining of explicit content and subsequent threats are more likely to occur.

Why Is Roblox Getting Sued by Families?

Behind Roblox’s success is a business model that, according to a rising number of lawsuits, takes advantage of young users. While Roblox markets itself as a safe and creative space for kids, the families filing these lawsuits claim it is anything but.

These lawsuits allege that Roblox Corporation intentionally designed addictive features to keep children playing for extended periods, spending money impulsively, and interacting with strangers, often without meaningful oversight.

How is my child at risk on Roblox? How can using Roblox specifically harm my child?

Parents across the country are pursuing legal action for a range of damages, alleging:

Inappropriate or Sexually Explicit Chatting

This is often the initial point of contact. Predators may use suggestive language, explicit jokes, or direct sexual comments in public or private chats, sometimes bypassing filters through misspellings or symbols. This can desensitize children and test their boundaries.

Grooming

This is a systematic process where a predator builds trust and an emotional connection with a child over time to manipulate them for sexual exploitation. This can involve:

Feigned Friendship or Affection on Roblox

Showering the child with compliments, attention, and “gifts” (like Robux or in-game items) to create a bond.

Isolation Tactics

Using isolation to encourage the child to keep their online interactions secret from parents or other trusted adults.

Boundary Testing

Gradually introducing inappropriate topics or suggestive scenarios to see the child’s reaction and normalize such conversations.

Encouraging Off-Platform Communication

A critical step in the grooming process. Predators often push to move conversations from Roblox’s moderated environment to unmonitored apps like Discord, Snapchat, WhatsApp, or even direct phone calls. This makes it much harder for parents or Roblox’s safety systems to detect and intervene. Soliciting Personal Information

Attempting to obtain real-world identifying details about the child, such as their full name, age, location, school, or photos of themselves, often under the guise of building a deeper “friendship.”

Coercing Explicit Photos/Videos (Sextortion)

Once trust is established or the conversation moves off-platform, the predator may pressure or trick the child into sending sexually explicit images or videos. If the child complies, these images are then used as leverage for ongoing demands, threats, or blackmail.

Inappropriate User-Generated Content (UGC) and “Experiences”

Some users create games or “experiences” within Roblox that feature highly inappropriate content. This can include:

  • “Condo games” or “red-light districts” that simulate adult clubs or sexual scenarios.
  • Games with avatars that are nude or in sexually suggestive attire.
  • Role-playing scenarios that involve sexual themes or violence.

These environments can expose children to explicit material or put them in situations where they are targeted for inappropriate interactions.

Live Voice Chat (for 13+ verified users)

While age-gated, voice chat can introduce another layer of risk, as it’s harder to moderate in real-time. Predators can use voice chat to build rapport more quickly or engage in verbal sexual abuse

Meeting in Person

The ultimate, most dangerous escalation, where a predator attempts to arrange a real-world meeting with the child. This is a severe risk that can lead to physical abduction or sexual assault, as seen in tragic real-world cases

Financial Exploitation (after Grooming/Sextortion)

Predators may demand money, gift cards (e.g., Robux gift cards), or other financial compensation in exchange for not sharing explicit content or as part of the grooming process.

The Roblox lawsuits we have already filed, some of the others we’ve seen, and some of the horrible news stories that have come out (see below), have mentioned varying combinations of the issues listed above. In the lawsuits, plaintiff attorneys allege that Roblox Corporation failed to protect children, misrepresented the safety of its platform, and prioritized financial gain over the well-being of its young and vulnerable users.

How Online Predators Are Accessing Your Children for Grooming and Child Sexual Exploitation

We’ve briefly covered the ways in which your children can be put at risk or harmed on Roblox, but one thing that keeps coming up over and over again is the concern over online predators, actually speaking to your children. But how exactly are adults making contact with kids on Roblox? This is the crucial, disturbing question, and it often boils down to the platform’s very own communication tools.

How exactly are adults making contact with kids on Roblox?

Here’s a breakdown of how these interactions occur:

  • Text Chat on Roblox is the most common form of communication. Players can chat publicly within games or privately with their “friends” via direct messages. Roblox has filters in place to try to block inappropriate content and personally identifiable information, especially for users under 13. However, predators can still attempt to bypass these filters or engage in grooming over time.
  • Voice Chat on Roblox is offered to users aged 13 and older who have verified their phone number. While Roblox states it monitors voice conversations (though they are not filtered in the same way text is), this feature introduces another layer of risk, as it’s harder to moderate real-time spoken content.
  • Direct Messaging (or DMs) is built into Roblox’s platform. However, Roblox has implemented stricter controls on direct messaging, especially for users under 13, which now requires parental consent for certain types of direct communication. However, the ability to DM friends still exists, and predators (who sometimes create accounts to appear as if they are a child or an older teen) often attempt to add children as “friends” to gain access to private communication channels.
  • User-Generated Content (UGC) is a more subtle way that Roblox predators can interact with your child. Remember how he said that Roblox is not just a game, but it’s also a place in which users can build their own games and experiences within the Roblox platform? This is another way children can be exposed to inappropriate material, usually involving creating “experiences” (games within the game) with themes or scenarios that are inappropriate, or using in-game items and spaces to facilitate problematic interactions. Predators can use these creations to set up scenarios that might seem innocent to a child but are designed for grooming.
  • Leaving Roblox to Communicate is another major concern for parents because it may not involve Roblox at all at this point. When adults attempt to move conversations off Roblox to other platforms like Discord, Snapchat, texting, or even real-life meetings, things can get even more difficult for you to detect and monitor. Roblox attempts to detect and block attempts to share personal contact information, but if successful, then the predator has now lured your child away from Roblox and any moderation they might have to channels like Discord or Snapchat, where conversations are usually private and can even be set to disappear after a few seconds.

It’s a stark reminder that while Roblox offers connection, it also provides avenues for exploitation, placing a heavy burden on both the platform and parents to remain vigilant.

Real-World Examples: The Tangible Impact of Roblox’s Alleged Negligence

Here are some real (and very disturbing ) incidents that clearly show this is not all theoretical.

*Trigger Warning: Mentions of Child Sexual Abuse Material and other disturbing topics. Read with discretion.*

Illicit Content, Child Sexual Abuse Material, & The “Adult Studios”

Reports from sources like the very thorough Hindenburg Research study revealed some extremely disturbing elements of Roblox—in fact, some of it is almost unbelievable. Hindenburg Research created their own Roblox accounts, and what they found is crazy!

A Hindenburg Research test account registered as “under 13” found a section in Roblox called “Adult Studios” with over 3,300 members openly trading C-SAM (formerly known as child pornography) and soliciting sexual acts from minors.

By tracking members of “Adult Studios,” they easily found 38 other Roblox groups (one with 103,000 members) openly soliciting sexual favors and trading C-SAM (child sexual abuse material).

existence of “Adult Studios” games and groups within Roblox, where users reportedly traded child sexual abuse material (C-SAM) or engaged in other highly inappropriate activities. These allegations point to a significant failure in content moderation.

Grooming Leading to Off-Platform Exploitation

Numerous civil and criminal cases have emerged where predators initiated contact with minors on Roblox, groomed them through in-game chat or DMs, and then moved conversations to unmoderated platforms like Discord or Snapchat. This often escalated to explicit photo sharing, sexual assault, or even abduction.

A 10-year-old girl, reported missing on April 13, 2025, was later found with her abductor, Matthew Naval, after talking with him on Roblox and Discord. Authorities believe Naval abducted her and drove her over 250 miles, leading to his arrest and charges including kidnapping and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. She was safely returned to her family.

The Arnold “DoctorRofatnik” Castillo Case

Arnold Castillo, a 28-year-old game developer who operated a popular Roblox game, “Sonic Eclipse Online,” used his online persona, DoctorRofatnik, to groom children. Despite signs of predatory behavior, including disturbing private messages to a 12-year-old, he continued to use the platform unabated. He was eventually arrested after paying an Uber to abduct a 15-year-old Indiana girl he had groomed, bringing her 700 miles to his home in New Jersey for sexual exploitation.

Screenshots showed private chats between Doctorrofatnik and this preteen.

“You’re 12, so I expect you to be a little slow when it comes to upbringing, but soon I’ll corrupt you beyond your wildest dreams…Words cannot explain what I want to do with you…You’re the reason I’m gonna end up behind bars.”

This case illustrates the severity of grooming that is occurring on Roblox and moving into real-world harm, not to mention the brazenness of his acts, which allude to how safe he felt on Roblox.

After his arrest, Roblox implemented a policy allowing users to be removed from Roblox for harassing individuals on non-Roblox platforms or offline. They also provided moderators with improved tools to detect new accounts created by banned users and established new child safety roles; however, many incidents have continued since then.

Three Egregious Incidents That Reveal Just How Dangerous Roblox Can Be To Children

In one case, a 48-year-old registered sex offender met an 8-year-old girl on Roblox and traded thousands of Robux for over 20 explicit images and videos she had shot of herself. This specific incident, occurring in 2020, exemplifies how predators exploit in-game currency to coerce minors, with the girl reportedly responding, “Anything for Robux,” despite the perpetrator noting her discomfort.

A 45-year-old man was charged with sexual crimes after a 13-year-old boy he met on Roblox shared his password so the man could add gift cards to his account. In exchange, the man received hundreds of photos and videos of the boy showering and performing sexual acts, and paid him thousands of dollars’ worth of Robux over three years.

A 10-year-old girl, reported missing on April 13, 2025, was found with Matthew Naval in Elk Grove after communicating with him on Roblox and Discord. Authorities believe Naval abducted her from Taft and drove her over 250 miles, leading to his arrest and charges, including kidnapping and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. She was safely returned to her family.

Systemic Predator Activity and Grooming

  • Since 2018, police in the U.S. have arrested at least two dozen people accused of abducting or abusing victims they met or groomed using Roblox.
  • Predators actively use Roblox to lure children into sending photographs or developing relationships that move to other online platforms and, eventually, offline.
  • Online child safety experts describe Roblox as an “easy way” for predators to target younger kids and begin the grooming process.
  • Darknet forums show adults trading tips for grooming on Roblox chats, including using misspellings or emojis to move conversations to unfiltered platforms for photos and videos, and offering Robux in exchange for pictures.
  • In 2018, a 29-year-old was caught with 175 hours of video footage of him grooming and engaging in explicit behavior with 150 minors using online platforms, notably Roblox.
  • Numerous criminal indictments from 2019-2024 allege that sexual predators groomed children in-game, then kidnapped, raped, or traded sexual content with them.
  • In a Roblox “therapy” experience, a therapist character told a child tester to run away from home and offered to pick them up to move into his basement in exchange for paying rent with their body.

Explicit Content and Exposure on the Platform

Prevalence of Illicit Content and Spaces

  • Media and non-profit exposés from 2020 to July 2024 revealed “digital strip clubs, red light districts, sex parties and child predators lurking on Roblox.”
  • The National Center on Sexual Exploitation labeled Roblox “a tool for sexual predators, a threat for children’s safety.”
  • Third-party monitoring reported approximately 12,400 erotic roleplay accounts on Roblox, including those for “rape/forceful sex fetishes” and underage users “willing to do anything for Robux” (since September 2nd, 2024).
  • Thousands of Roblox “sex videos” are available on porn sites, inviting users of unknown ages to create explicit content on the platform.

Specific Inappropriate Games and Interactions

  • Games like “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe” and “XYZ Club Vibe,” available to users identifying as 9+ years old, encourage illicit interactions and allow users to simulate sex in bathrooms wearing skimpy outfits.
  • Other Roblox users have identified issues including simulated rape, naked users, and rampant in-game sexual harassment.

Lack of Content Control and Age Restrictions

  • Chatrooms trading child pornography had no age restrictions, despite Roblox reporting that 21% of its users are under the age of 9.
  • Testing revealed that usernames like ‘Jeffrey Epstein’ and ‘Earl Brian Bradley’ (notorious pedophiles), along with variants like “@igruum_minors” [I groom minors] and “@RavpeTinyK1JE” [rape tiny kids], were already taken on Roblox, indicating their prior existence or attempts to register such accounts.

Roblox’s Failure to Prevent These Issues and Its Lack of Proper Action

Despite Roblox’s claims of a safe platform and a reported 13,000+ child exploitation incidents flagged to NCMEC in 2023, lawsuits and investigations consistently allege a delayed or inadequate response to abuse.

Critics point to systemic issues like prioritizing user growth over genuine child safety, with former employees detailing how proposals for stronger protections were allegedly sidelined. This focus on rapid expansion is claimed to leave children vulnerable to predators.

Furthermore, insufficient human moderation, combined with AI technology that struggles to detect subtle grooming tactics, means that countless dangerous interactions may slip through the cracks. The platform’s anonymity shield, while intended for privacy, is also exploited by predators who operate numerous alternate accounts, making them incredibly difficult to track and permanently remove. Ultimately, these alleged shortcomings allow dangerous interactions to persist and even escalate, putting children at continued and severe risk.

Take Notice, Take Action – Get Help If Your Child Was Harmed By Roblox

The examples of grooming, exploitation, and insufficient safety measures on Roblox paint a concerning picture.

If you’ve witnessed any of the issues highlighted, from explicit content and predatory interactions to a lack of responsiveness from the platform, or if your child has experienced any warning signs of online grooming, you don’t have to face it alone. Are the Roblox Lawsuits Valid or Will They Die on the Vine?

The lawsuits against Roblox for child harm and sexual exploitation are very strong cases. Roblox has long known about its safety issues and the risks faced by children who use its gaming platform.

The number of documented egregious acts involving grooming, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, and real-world sexual assault is beyond alarming.

Furthermore, there is a growing number of cases filed against Roblox with concerning complaints of children engaging in self-harm, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts after engaging with the Roblox universe.

To be perfectly blunt, the platform is a cesspool of pedophiles lurking and preying on children while hiding behind seemingly harmless, anonymous avatars. And when you add to this a culture of self-harm and severe cyberbullying, the number of ways a child could be harmed is almost endless.

Is Roblox Getting Sued Through an MDL?

Given the number of lawsuits already being filed and the massive number of potential victims who have yet to file or even realize they can file, we believe it is likely that the various Roblox lawsuits will eventually be consolidated into a multidistrict litigation (MDL).

Our estimate, based on the number of daily active users and the number of daily users who are minors, is that the number of Roblox sexual abuse, sexual assault, or grooming victims likely exceeds 100,000 children.

The lawsuits against Roblox are currently pending in three different Federal courts: the Northern and Central Districts of California and the Southern District of Texas.

When several lawsuits with similar claims are filed against the same defendant across different federal courts, consolidation is very likely. Both Roblox and the plaintiffs will likely welcome a consolidation; both sides will almost surely petition the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) for consolidation at some point soon.

Consolidation into an MDL helps both sides. It prevents Roblox and Discord from having to go through court proceedings, the discovery process, trials, etc., in every single court where a case has been filed.

The plaintiffs also benefit from being able to work together during the initial part of the trial proceedings.

Another major benefit of an MDL is that it prevents contradictory rulings. For example, if a judge rules one way in California and another way in Texas, it creates a big mess. Consolidating into an MDL avoids all of this.

As we mentioned in our update section above, the Roblox child sexual abuse lawsuits have nothing to do with the video game addiction lawsuits. It is true that the lawyers representing plaintiffs in the video game addiction lawsuits filed for consolidation in front of the JPML and were denied; however, the Roblox child exploitation cases have not gone in front of the JPML in any way.

What are the Criteria to File a Roblox/Discord Child Sexual Exploitation Lawsuit?

1. Form of Sexual Abuse on a Minor

The minor must have experienced one or more types of the following:

Sex Trafficking

  • The child is kidnapped or convinced to travel to the perpetrator for the purpose of having the child perform sexual acts.

Rape or Statutory Rape

  • “Statutory rape” is sex with a minor when the sex is not forced, but is usually coerced.
  • Attempted Rape or Attempted Statutory Rape
  • Penetration was attempted but not achieved.

Sexual Assault

  • Sexual assault is present only if one of the following is alleged:
    • forced manual stimulation
    • oral copulation
    • digital penetration
    • non-consensual touching or kissing of a sexual body part

Sexually Explicit Images

  • Exchange of photos, videos, or websites involving nudity.
  • If a child shared sexually explicit images of themselves, this alone meets injury requirements.

*If a child received sexually explicit images from an abuser, the case must also include a qualifying injury (see below).

Grooming

  • Grooming is when the abuser builds a relationship with the child or manipulates the child for the purpose of sexually exploiting or abusing the child.
  • The abuser must have engaged in multiple inappropriate communications with the child (i.e., cannot be just one interaction with the child).

*Grooming must be accompanied by a qualifying injury (see below).*

2. Age of Victim

  • The injured individual must have been 18 or younger at the time of abuse (or the time abuse began); otherwise, the case does not qualify.
  • If the potential plaintiff is currently a minor, a parent or guardian must sign on the minor’s behalf.

3. Where the Potential Plaintiff Met the Defendant

  • The child must have met the abuser on Roblox or Discord. This means that the initial contact must have occurred on Roblox or Discord and cannot include a situation where the defendant was met on Snapchat and then moved to Roblox, even if the Snapchat meeting only occurred once.
  • Any subsequent communication could be via another method or platform, such as Snapchat, Instagram, Discord, text messages, etc.

4. Potential Plaintiff’s Injuries or Evidence

One or more of the following must apply:

  • Sex Trafficking
  • Rape or Statutory Rape
  • Attempted Rape or Attempted Statutory Rape
  • Sexual Assault (Forced Manual Stimulation, Oral Copulation, Digital Penetration, Nonconsensual Touching/Kissing of a Sexual Body Part)
  • Sexually Explicit Images
  • Minor Has Been Diagnosed by a Healthcare Professional With Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, or suicidal ideation as a result of the abuse they suffered on Roblox or Discord.
  • Medical Records Document Physical Harm that the Minor Experienced as a Result of the Abuse.
  • Minor Died by Suicide or Attempted Suicide as a Result of the Abuse.
  • Minor Sought and/or Is Actively Seeking Psychiatric or Psychological Treatment as a Result of the Abuse (Including Treatment for Substance Abuse and/or Self-Harm, School-provided counseling, Therapy)

5. Other Disqualifying Factors:

If any of the following are true, the case is not eligible for a Roblox Lawsuit:

  • Minor has an ongoing, current relationship with the abuser.

*Extreme cases involving an ongoing relationship may be sent to the firm for review before signing. For example, the parent has done everything they can to stop contact between their child and the abuser, but due to the abuse, the child occasionally engages with the abuser due to manipulation or a form of Stockholm Syndrome.

**And as a reminder, only victims who were 17 or younger when the abuse occurred or when the initial grooming began qualify for this lawsuit.

What is Section 230, and Will The Internet Liability Shield Impact the Roblox Lawsuit?

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act grants what they call “interactive computer services” broad immunity for the content posted by their users because they are a platform rather than a publisher. Interactive computer services are usually websites or apps where users can share their own content using the service but the platform is not responsible for anything that is posted or shared using their service.

This shields specific platforms from liability for anything harmful their users might post on places like ssocial media websites, like X, Instagram, Snap, and Facebook, as well as blogs, message boards, review sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor, sites like eBay or Etsy, online dating sites, and even the services that host websites (meaing their store their information).

However, Section 230 is unlikely to fully protect Roblox in the ongoing child harm lawsuits. The Roblox lawsuits are primarily aimed at holding the Roblox Corporation accountable for its negligence and recklessness in designing and operating a platform that facilitates such an extreme amount of child exploitation and grooming. Basically, we are not going after Roblox for the content their users post; we are focused on the corporation’s behavior and policies that allow it.

While section 230 is a concern, and we will need to address this issue, it is not a big worry. Unlike video game addiction cases, the actual content on the platform is not the main focus of the Roblox lawsuit cases.

Rather, the focus is on Roblox Corporation’s negligence, lack of oversight, and failure to implement simple and remedial safety measures to protect its underage users.

Also, the likely co-lead counsel of this lawsuit (Alexandra Walsh) is currently dealing with the Section 230 issue in the social media harm MDL, where she is on the leadership committee and has experience presenting these arguments to federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

This is all to say, we have a game plan.

Roblox and Discord: A Dangerous Combination

Many predators use Discord—an external chat platform—to communicate with kids outside Roblox’s limited moderation. Some children are invited to continue conversations there, often without parents realizing it.

The lawsuits allege that this two-platform system creates a loophole for child predators:

  • Conversations easily move from Roblox to Discord
  • Strangers can contact kids without age verification
  • There’s little oversight or content filtering

While Roblox claims to monitor interactions, families argue the protections are inadequate and have left children exposed to serious harm.

Is Roblox Getting Sued in a Class Action Lawsuit?

Yes, Roblox is currently facing both class action and individual lawsuits. In February 2024, a class action lawsuit was filed in the Northern District of California, specifically accusing Roblox Corp of enabling sexual exploitation through inadequate safety measures.

While the court system declined to consolidate cases filed in federal courts throughout the U.S. into an MDL (multidistrict litigation), individuals can still pursue their own lawsuits against Roblox.

If your family’s situation aligns with the patterns of exploitation described, you may be eligible to join an existing class action. However, some families, particularly those who have experienced severe or unique harm, may find greater benefit in filing an individual claim. Dolman Law Group’s personal injury lawyers are available to help you understand your specific options.

Roblox Sexual Abuse: A Clear Guide to Help Parents Understand Roblox Sexual Abuse & How to Prevent It

Below is a brief guide to help parents understand how to protect their child from harm on Roblox. However, we also have a complete guide for parents on Roblox that explores topics like how Roblox really works, why banning your child may not be the answer, understanding all the different types of harm, learning the parental controls and how your child is beating them, and so much more.

Here is a brief guide to help parents understand what is going on with Roblox and their serious problem with sexual abuse and sextortion. We also cover how to prevent this from happening to your child.

Facing the Uncomfortable Truth

This guide helps parents understand the rising concerns and recent reports regarding sexual abuse on Roblox. Roblox is a user-generated content platform, immensely popular with children, where these issues are increasingly surfacing.

How Exploitation Allegedly Occurs on Roblox

Predators allegedly use in-game chat, direct messages, and voice chat for initial contact. Problematic “experiences” are built through user-generated content (UGC). Grooming tactics are employed to build trust before moving interactions off-platform to unmonitored external apps like Discord or Snapchat.

Roblox’s Alleged Role: Why Lawsuits Are Being Filed

Lawsuits claim Roblox has inadequate moderation with ineffective content filtering and human review. Allegations state that user acquisition is prioritized over child protection, and age verification flaws allow predators to bypass age gates. Criticism also points to delayed or insufficient responses to reported abuse. Legal claims often cite negligence or product liability.

What Roblox Says vs. The Reality

While Roblox states it has safety measures like parental controls, chat filters, and reporting mechanisms, the reality, as alleged in lawsuits and reports, shows these measures often have limitations or are ineffective in practice.

Roblox Red Flags: What Parents Need to Watch For

  • Changes in your child’s behavior (withdrawal, anxiety, secrecy) related to online interactions.
  • Unusual device use or sudden shifts in gaming habits that seem suspicious.
  • Requests for personal information or to move conversations off Roblox.
  • Obsession with specific users or games on the platform, especially if they become secretive.
  • Requests for Robux for unusual or frequent, unexplained reasons.

Actionable Steps for Parents

  • Open Communication: Establish ongoing dialogues about online safety; encourage reporting discomfort.
  • Parental Controls: Set up and manage Roblox’s features, understanding their limitations.
  • Monitoring Tools: Consider third-party monitoring solutions with ethical use.
  • Reporting Abuse: Know how and where to report suspicious activity on Roblox.
  • Seeking Support: Utilize resources for legal counsel, victim advocacy, and mental health professionals specializing in online trauma.

FAQs: Roblox Lawsuit Questions Answered

Lawsuits primarily claim that Roblox negligently facilitates child sexual exploitation by online predators and misleads families about the safety of its platform.

Every state has its statute of limitations. In most cases, you have two to four years from the date the harm occurred or from when you first discovered it. Don’t delay. Once the deadline in your jurisdiction passes, you lose your right to sue.

At Dolman Law Group, we work on a contingency fee basis. You pay nothing unless we recover money on your behalf. No hourly rates. No out-of-pocket expenses. No hidden fees.

Yes, but courts may ask whether you took steps to limit or stop use after recognizing a problem. That doesn’t disqualify your case, but it may factor into the outcome.

The Roblox lawsuits filed by Dolman Law Group allege that Roblox Corporation and Discord, Inc. negligently designed and operated their platforms in ways that exposed children to grooming, sexual exploitation, and assault, and that the companies misled parents about safety measures in place. More specifically, Roblox had direct knowledge of numerous arrests along with law enforcement investigations related to children who were abused by sexual predators who groomed them on the Roblox platform.

Families whose children were targeted, groomed or harmed after interacting on Roblox or related chat platforms like Discord may be eligible to file a Roblox lawsuit. Eligibility typically depends on whether the platforms’ features or failures contributed to the harm.

The complaint alleges causes of action, including negligent design and operation, failure to implement adequate safeguards (such as meaningful age verification and predator detection), and deceptive or misleading safety representations to parents.

Plaintiffs may seek compensatory damages for medical and counseling expenses, emotional distress, and other losses, and in many cases, punitive damages if the conduct of Roblox is shown to be especially reckless or willful. We strongly believe the conduct exhibited by Roblox was egregiously reckless. In fact, Roblox displayed a lack of care for the safety of minors when they publicly endorsed the safety of their gaming platform after learning of numerous instances of sexual predators grooming and subsequently sexually abusing children they met on the gaming platform.

Yes. Statutes of limitations vary by state and by the type of claim; parents should consult an attorney promptly because missing the applicable deadline can bar a claim.

No. Civil lawsuits against Roblox focus on whether the company’s actions or design contributed to harm and do not require a criminal conviction of an alleged predator to pursue civil claims.

Helpful evidence can include the filed complaint or docket records, screenshots or chat logs showing communications, timestamps or logs showing time spent on the platform, medical or therapy records, and any correspondence with platform safety or moderation teams.

Dolman Law Group presently represents a number of clients who claim they were not only groomed by sexual predators, but they also actually met the perpetrator who attempted to sexually abuse the child. Sadly, in a number of cases, the perpetrator sexually abused the child.

Lawsuits can lead to reforms, injunctive relief, or settlements that require companies to adopt stronger safeguards; the complaint in this case seeks damages and injunctive measures to improve safety.

Yes, Dolman Law Group offers free, confidential consultations to families who believe their children were harmed on Roblox or Discord.

Each Roblox lawsuit filed by Dolman Law Group alleges the gaming platform is defective in design. We continue to allege that Roblox failed to test the safety of the features it developed and implemented for use on the platform. Further, it is our contention that Roblox designed its gaming platform to appeal to adult sexual predators by making it easy to find children and enabling their contact, grooming, sexual exploitation, and sexual abuse of children.

Roblox knew or, by simply exercising reasonable care, Roblox should have known its platform posed a substantial risk of harm to youth. These risks were known and knowable in light of their own internal data and knowledge regarding this app/platform at the time of its development, design, marketing, promotion, advertising, and distribution to our plaintiffs.

Sadly, Roblox has continued to make false representations about the safety of its gaming platform. Roblox has and continues to have a duty to tell the public the truth and accurately disclose defective conditions of its app or gaming platform. In fact, they have a duty to disclose that their platform poses serious safety risks to child users. However, Roblox opted to engage in widespread media campaigns touting the safety of its product in the media and in materials provided to potential users of this app, along with their parents.

Roblox had every opportunity to tell the truth. Instead, Roblox claims their platform is safe despite having knowledge of numerous arrests of sexual predators who groomed, exploited, and sexually abused children they met on this very platform.

No. Roblox is attempting to force children to comply with a mandatory arbitration clause. Let that sink in for a moment. Roblox is making every effort to deny minor sexual abuse victims their constitutional right to a jury trial by attempting to enforce an arbitration agreement that the child could not comprehend or likely even read. Further, Roblox did not utilize age verification for years and relied on minors self-reporting their age.
